Kids @ Among The Trees

Our kids courses are the perfect opportunity for kids and their parents or guardians to work together, learn some woodworking skills, and take something beautiful and handmade home.

Each course looks at the properties and history of timber, the value of sustainability and recycled materials, and using hand woodworking tools in a safe and supportive environment.

Our kids-only courses

Wooden noughts and crosses making

This fun and simple course sees you making a noughts and crosses set, learning skills such as measuring, sawing, gluing, nailing, sanding, and more. This course is perfect for children with no experience or exposure to woodwork.

4 hour course
For ages 8-12, with guardians present

Wooden car making

Our wooden car making course sees you and your child making one or more timber cars and then sliding them down our timber mega slide at the end of the session. A fantastic introduction to woodwork for young kids, we recommend doing this course after taking part in the noughts and crosses course.

4 hour course
For ages 8-12, with guardians present

Timber pencil box making

This two day course sees you and your child making a beautiful timber pencil box with a pivoting lid and a round end detail. A slightly more advanced course, we recommend doing this course after the toy car making.

2x 4 hour sessions, over 2 days
For ages 8-12, with guardians present

Timber step stool course

This is a great introduction to woodwork course for anyone who would like to be introduced to the joys of working with wood, and in particular working with second-hand timbers that would otherwise be heading to landfill. This is the same course as our all-ages step stool course but only for children.

6 hours plus a lunch break
For ages 10-15, with guardians present

We host a range of kids courses, both as part of our course calendar and for group bookings, eg. for homeschooling groups. If you'd like to book a group session, get in touch!

Courses for kids 13-17

Most of our course offering is open to children 13-17 years old.

  • Kids 13-15 are able to attend most of our courses with a parent or guardian present.

  • Kids 16-17 are able to attend most of our courses without a parent or guardian present.
